This is the basis for Gerhard Richter’s design for the stained glass window of the Köln Cathedral. I had seen this in pictures, and now I’ve seen it in life and life is way more amazing. The colors coming through this, suspended 12 stories or so in the air, bracketed in high gothic architecture with an active organ playing medieval music: the window begs for meaning, and somewhere around there, you find it.
